New 2D View


2D Scene View

I mentioned in a previous post that the new layout for the game would be used to ensure we are able to add new features to the game. The main feature I had in mind was exactly this update.

This was a big update in terms of setting up a new viewport for a 2D scene. Adding in sprites and getting them to work correctly with positions and collisions.

That being said, when you unlock Mind Control and begin controlling creatures then you will be able to see the creatures you are controlling.

For now I have to ensure that there is a maximum number of each creature which is currently hard locked to 10 of each. This will prevent too many from being spawned and making the look insane (Though I have tested it and it technically can run hundreds of each).

There is a lot we can do with this new 2D scene, however for now this is the very bare-bones prototype of it.


What comes next

Now that I have the view port there are a number of things that need to update.

First off is the story. Adding in dialogue to explain the new view. This may come as an upgrade, spending the first of your life essence to 'unlock' perception of your surroundings and then move onto the 'Mind Control' upgrade.


Second, is to possibly fix the left/right glitch of the sprites when they have completed their move to a new position. This isn't something that actually breaks anything so isn't really a priority and will likely be overlooked for a while, especially since the sprites may change in the future.


Third is to revisit the game design and figure out a new structure to the Upgrades and Unlocks to make the game flow. Along with rebalancing the game a little so progress feels more natural.
